Business Consulting built around the decisions you actually face

Most firms sell a single methodology. We start differently: by mapping where your organisation sits right now, then showing you which advisory approach will move the needle fastest. This page is structured as a comparison guide so you can evaluate before you call.

Scroll to compare engagement models, check whether we fit your situation, and request a diagnostic conversation. No obligation, no generic pitch deck.

What a recent client said

"We had spoken to three consultancies before Trust Value. They were the first to ask us what stage we were at before proposing anything."
Director of operations, Edinburgh logistics firm (2024)

Is advisory consulting right for you now?

Not every company needs an external consultant. Open each question below. If you answer yes to two or more, a structured engagement will likely pay for itself within six months.

Are your revenues growing but margins shrinking?

Revenue growth that erodes margin often signals pricing architecture problems, supply-chain leakage, or overhead that scaled faster than output. A focused diagnostic can isolate the cause in under three weeks.

Have you delayed a strategic decision for more than 90 days?

Delayed decisions compound. When leadership lacks an external sounding board, decisions on expansion, restructuring, or market entry tend to stall. We provide structured decision support with clear deadlines.

Is your leadership team stretched across too many priorities?

When every initiative is urgent, none gets proper attention. We help you rank initiatives by financial impact and execution feasibility, then assign ownership with measurable checkpoints.

Do you lack reliable financial forecasting?

Many mid-market firms still forecast in spreadsheets with outdated assumptions. We build rolling forecasts grounded in driver-based models, so you see cash-flow consequences before they arrive.

Are you preparing for a sale, merger, or major investment round?

Transaction readiness requires clean data rooms, defensible valuations, and a narrative investors believe. We have supported nine transactions since 2021, ranging from £2m to £28m in enterprise value.

Finance lead, Aberdeen manufacturing company

"Quarterly advisory gave us a rhythm. Every 90 days we knew exactly where we stood, what to prioritise, and what to drop."

CEO, Glasgow SaaS start-up

"They embedded with our senior team for eight months during the acquisition. The buyer's due diligence was the smoothest part of the process."

Founder, Dundee professional services group

When to choose us over a larger firm

Big Four and mid-tier consultancies serve a purpose. Here is an honest comparison so you can decide where your budget works hardest.

Where we outperform

  • Senior-only delivery: no graduate analysts learning on your project
  • Faster mobilisation: we start within five business days, not five weeks
  • Fixed fees on diagnostic work: no scope creep invoicing
  • Direct access to the lead consultant, not a project manager relay
  • Deep understanding of Scottish and UK mid-market dynamics

Where a larger firm may suit better

  • Multi-country regulatory compliance projects
  • IT systems integration requiring 50+ consultants
  • Engagements where the brand name of the adviser matters to investors
  • Statutory audit-linked advisory (we are not an audit firm)

How an engagement actually works

We do not follow a rigid methodology. But every engagement moves through these five gates.

Gate 1: Scoping conversation (free, 45 minutes)

We listen to your situation, ask pointed questions, and tell you honestly whether external help will make a difference. About a third of initial conversations end with us recommending the company handle things internally. That is fine.

Gate 2: Written scope and fee proposal

Within three business days you receive a document outlining the problem as we understand it, the work we propose, the deliverables, the timeline, and the fee. No ambiguity, no hidden extras.

Gate 3: Data gathering and stakeholder interviews

We request specific financial data, operational reports, and access to key people. Interviews are structured, typically 40 minutes each, and we share a summary of findings before drawing conclusions.

Gate 4: Analysis, modelling, and recommendation

This is where the value concentrates. We build financial models, scenario analyses, or strategic options papers depending on the engagement. Every recommendation includes a clear implementation path and expected financial impact.

Gate 5: Handover and follow-through

We present findings to the leadership team, answer challenges, and agree next steps. For quarterly and embedded engagements, we stay involved through execution. For diagnostic sprints, we offer a 30-day follow-up call at no extra charge.

Questions we hear most often

What does a diagnostic sprint cost?

Fees depend on scope, but most sprints for single-issue diagnostics fall between £3,500 and £8,000. We quote a fixed fee before any work begins, and we do not invoice beyond it.

Can you work alongside our existing accountants?

Yes, and we often do. We complement rather than replace your accountant. We focus on strategic and operational questions; they handle compliance and reporting. We are happy to coordinate directly with your finance team.

How quickly can you start?

For diagnostic sprints, we can usually begin within five business days of a signed scope letter. Quarterly advisory starts at the next calendar quarter unless urgency dictates otherwise.

Do you sign non-disclosure agreements?

Always. We provide our standard mutual NDA at the scoping stage. If you have your own template, we are happy to review and sign it instead.

What industries do you specialise in?

We have deep experience in professional services, manufacturing, logistics, technology, and food and drink. That said, our analytical frameworks transfer well across sectors. If your challenge is primarily financial or operational, the industry label matters less than the data.

What if we are not ready for consulting yet?

That is a perfectly valid outcome of our scoping conversation. We will tell you what to focus on internally first and invite you to reconnect when the timing is better. No pressure, no follow-up sales calls.
